The state education department is thinking of re-introducing its "marks normalisation'' scheme for admission to junior college, albeit
in a new avatar. Last year, the high court ruled against the system.
A year ago, the state government introduced the normalisation scheme, which aimed at bringing in parity between the marks scored by SSC students and those from other boards. It involved calculating a percentile score for each student, using a formula prescribed by the board.
The system created an uproar among SSC, ICSE, CBSE, IB and IGCSE students. They were so upset with the scheme that an ICSE student, the ICSE board as well as the principals of ICSE schools filed a petition in court against it.
